I've officially been laying in bed for 30 hours. I should probably time how long this takes to write because I already feel winded.
Well it has now been 7 hours. I took a brief nap.
Anyways, this past weekend Ale and I along with Vaibhav went to Hampi. I don't have the energy to talk about the weekend now, so ill just use pictures. The good thing is that I felt great up until I woke up at 545 am on the bus when we had arrived in Bangalore Monday morning. I took some ibuprofen when we got back to The Thackers and then felt fine when I woke up. And then the ibuprofen wore off. For the past 36 hours, I'm on a 5 hour cycle of paracetamol (we switched to that after realizing I'd be taking it a lot.) As I laid in bed yesterday, I went through my differential of fever, belly pain, and diarrhea. Dengue, malaria, typhoid were my go to. Ale and I were about to start treating me for typhoid when we decided it was probably a better idea to go to St. John's and let someone who actually diagnoses these conditions to do the diagnosing.
So then I got to be a patient. The whole trip to the ER took 90 minutes. I spent 80 rupees to register, 160 rupees for a CBC (complete blood count) and 102 rupees for some high dose paracetamol and zofran. Aka less than $7. Of course the doctor didn't do anything I wanted - like diagnose my typhoid or do a test for a typhoid or even examine my belly or ask a family history, medical history, allergies, meds, etc. I complained to Ale the whole time and she told me that I'd get the same care in the states. I still didn't like it because all I did was waste 90 minutes being given meds for my symptoms (which I could have done myself.) He told me to come back in 2-3 days if I don't improve. Thanks.
So I went back home to take my paracetamol and lay in bed. The Thackers are out of town for a week at a wedding, but they are very sweet and are having the maid make me all sorts of drinks for my belly. Lime juice with sugar- quite yummy! And buttermilk- which kind of tastes like sour milk, but is like the Gatorade of India. Ale has been taking good care of me, graciously skipping work to feed me my paracetamol, bring me my drinks, serve me whatever food I can get down (not much), and just be my mommy. It could be worse.
Whew a whole 15 minutes that I've been awake- that's a record for today. And on that note, here are some pics from Hampi- which was amazing minus whatever got me sick. On the positive side, maybe I'll look skinny in my sari next week!
I'm too lazy to explain what's going on down here. Hampi has lots of boulders (we climbed some), good sunsets, lots of temples (see the elephant stables below), Laksmi (the elephant inside one of the temples), and wild monkeys. I wanted to put a monkey in my pocket, but Ale wouldn't let me.
Here's to waking up tomorrow feeling all better. Please.
